The 2015 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta is a beautiful example of what has been noted as one of the most desirable and valuable cars ever made. There are only 39 examples around the world with this particular car being chassis number 5111GT. The previous record for a car sold at auction was set by another 250 GTO at $26 million USD in 2014 - so to break that record with such a staggering difference is really quite extraordinary. As a comparison, the average cost of a house in Canada is $484,100 (according to Re/Max) which puts it just above the price of this Ferrari. The car was sold at the RM Sotheby's auction in Monterey on Saturday during the famed Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance weekend where many other Ferraris (and other luxury cars) are sold for millions of dollars each. The car was sold to a mystery bidder who purchased the car for a lot more than any of its competitors during the auction. The winning bidder also paid in cash whereas many bidders at this auction were willing to accept other currencies, including foreign currency.

As for the car itself, it was received by long-time Ferrari collector Guy Pérard from France who has previously owned 35 Ferraris including the iconic Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and Enzo Ferrari's own Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta. Pérard is an avid collector of 25 Ferraris which includes all the most famous models from the model's long history, including several models that became famous in their own right as well as some that have been forgotten over time. 

The Ferrari 250 GTO had originally been sold to Pérard's long-time friend, Vincent Peter in 1955. As noted by the auction house, "The car has always been meticulously cared for and is presented in excellent condition overall." Many people will continue to debate whether or not the price was appropriate for this particular car, but in my opinion, it is hard to find a car of this quality and rarity. 

The car is only 7 years younger than the first Ferrari 250 GTO which was made in 1947, so it already has more life than some of the cars that were original when they were first produced. As a previous owner noted while describing the car recently: "That's one of only 10 cars made with the 'Chiribiri' diamond-stitched interior and I believe it's one of only four with its original door cards. The engine itself never left Maranello. There is nothing to improve on this car and it has no flaws." And then after that, we launched into motorcycles. There was a very rare and highly customized BMW R100R called Little Bastard which ended up selling for $96,400 USD. The top sale of the evening was this 1958 Porsche RSK Roadster which sold for $1. 3 million USD. Earlier in the day, this 1955 Ferrari 250 GTO sold for $26,000,000 USD and it was the car that set a new record for an auction of a Ferrari 250 GTO. It was previously owned by French collector" Guy Pérard" for over 50 years.

We also had some amazing examples of the latest models on the market like this Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe which sold for $1,400,000. On the used side, this Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 sold for $400,000. And a Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG which sold for $550,000. We also had some technology. 

And there were a lot of German cars as well like this Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG which is really cool and it has a black interior on it. It sold for $516,000 USD and that's what happens whenever you combine low mileage rare cars with a Mercedes-Benz. And this is a BMW M6 which sold for $600,000 USD. And there were also a few Ferraris including a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa which was another very special car in the auction and it sold for $29,200,000 USD. We also had a number of pre-production cars. Some of them were quite rare like this Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing which was a very early model that was outfitted with one of the very first "Zonda" engines. It's owned by "Bijar Law Firm" in Beverly Hills and it sells for $1,300,000 USD.
